With
only one week left until the eggs should start hatching, Ward made no
direct deliveries to the nest box last night, but did call June out a
couple of times for what I hope were meals. Her last outing came at 7am
and lasted for nineteen minutes, which is a surprisingly long time
considering the 38 degree temperature. June usually restricts her outings
to less than five minutes at this stage. After she returned to the nest,
Ward flew up to his favorite perch where he is shown here and spent a cold
rainy day sleeping. While you might expect him to take cover on lower
branches, or look for a nice warm cavity in such weather, he seems to
enjoy the challenge and seeks out the most exposed perches. He did not,
however, call home during the day, and June did not call to him from the
nest. |
