Increasing Activity

Activity has picked up dramatically within the past 24 hours. June made three housekeeping visits, while Ward made two visits to nearby branches. On both of Ward's visits, he was unusually quiet and repeated his monkey call only a couple of times. I discovered the likely cause of his caution a few hours later when a pair of great horned owls started hooting in the distance. Ward and June are always quiet when they are around. June's visits were all non-vocal and involved entering the nest for about five minutes of stirring up and chewing on the wood chips. She is shown here at 6am with a wood chip in her mouth during her first daylight visit of the season. In past years, the first egg has come within two days of her first daylight visit.
