It looked like Spencer was in for a big treat when he saw
Ward gliding toward him this afternoon. He had been waiting in the doorway
for almost thirty minutes and had succeeded in blocking every attempt that
Penelope made to squeeze in next to him. He had worked hard to earn the
right to this uncontested meal, and would probably have gotten it if the
delivery had been made by June. It was, however, his misfortune to be
there for the first daylight delivery that Ward has made for several days.
Ward only knows one way to deliver a meal when June is not
around: He drops it through the door to let the owlets scramble for
it. Spencer is shown here as he eagerly waits for Ward to turn around and
give him what appears to be a very tasty pair of frog legs. Seconds later,
Spencer's look turned to one of dismay as Ward pushed him
aside and dropped his delivery to the floor where Penelope quickly gobbled
it up. In spite of this disappointment, Spencer continues to spend almost
half of his time in the doorway, while Penelope is yet to make her first
trip. She has been trying though and I expect to see her up there very
soon. They could leave the nest at any time now. |
