Ward
had another good night last night so that Spencer and Penelope again got
as much as they could eat today. The owlets also did quite a bit of
fighting during meals as each one tried to gain an advantage by climbing
on top of the other or pushing it away from the food. These scuffles could
be serious in leaner times, but don't mean much on days like this
when both owlets will get all they can eat. June is shown here returning
from one of the two ten-minute trips she made to visit with Ward today.
She is pictured just as she stepped on Penelope, who was sleeping on the
floor when June returned. June pulled her foot back before she put her
full weight on it so that there was no harm, but Penelope let out a loud
series of peeps anyway. The large critter in the background is one
of two that were stashed in the nest at dawn and made for good eating all
day. The owlets should have tripled their birth weight by now and will
start to grow even faster for as long as Ward continues to bring in plenty
of food. |
