Because barred owls in this area have been known to delay the start nesting until as late as mid-May, there is still a good chance that Ward and June will nest. They can be heard exchanging classic hoots in a nearby pine grove almost every day and June has entered the nest twice in the last week. On April 7th, Ward could be heard wailing outside the nest as June went inside and issues her hwu-hwu call for several minutes. She returned again last night and entered for a brief nest inspection.
